The Best Exercise for Chronic Low Back Pain

Exercise therapy is one of the most widely used treatments for improving disability and pain in people with chronic low back pain. Until recently, though, it was still unclear what forms of exercise were the most effective.

Things have changed! Thanks to a recent study, we now know which type of exercise is the best at treating chronic low back pain.

Posterior Chain Training is more effective in reducing pain, reducing disability and increasing strength in people with chronic low back pain, than general exercise. The posterior chain is made up of the hamstrings, glutes and erector spinae's (low back muscles). This study showed that 12-16 weeks of posterior chain resistance training are best to maximize outcomes in people with chronic low back pain.

Exercises such as the deadlift are excellent to strengthen the posterior chain and thus rid of chronic low back pain!
